K & N Filter missing a piece?

I have a K & N Air Filter and I just feel like I'm missing a piece to it? I expect to see a cone or some sort of external filter. Vehicle is running fine but I suspect that I'm missing something. Several owners prior to me had a snorkel and I"m just wondering if something didn't get put back together after the removal.

Here is a picture

someone cut the trumpet off the air filter canister. Do yourself a favor and go to NAPA and pick up a stock replacement filter.

Phillip,
I'll do that. Can you give me an idea of what the trumpet is/does?

I am not sure what it does, I am sure they engineered it to do something.

You don't need the trumpet, but if you do want it, they are the same as on a 1987-1994 Range Rover.

the intake trumpet is also called a silencer. To me the truck sounds much better without it- you can actually here it breath.

I pulled that horn of the RRC's intake and it is considerably louder, sounds good. I couldnt tell a difference when I pulled it off the Defender.
