Is a Disco I VSS compatible with LT95 4-spd?

I already posted this question in the giant VDO thread, but there hasn't been any response. I'm hoping there is better visibility in this section.

I'd like to updgrade to VDO gauges and I'd prefer to ditch my old speedo cable and go electronic. Is the Disco I VSS (YBE100540G) compatible with an LT95 4-spd gearbox?

I've searched the forum and found a few posts that touch on this without actually confirming if it will work. A google search yielded a few dead-end threads on other forums as well. I greatly appreciate any info you all can provide.

I'm guessing yes. I changed out my LT95 for a 5spd and a LT230 and I didn't have to change the speedometer cable.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong here I haven't been under an 85. The speedo cable is typically driven by a gear on the rear output shaft of the transfercase so it shouldn't matter what transmission you have. Your VSS is then driven by the speedo cable. My guess is you would need the short intermediate speedo cable between the LT230 and the VSS you mentioned above.

The lt95 is the big "one box" trans and t-case in a single housing, not a separate transmission.

Should be able to pry the speedo cable drive out and slide a VSS in. The VSS are color coded for different final drive ratio's so if your speedo isn't adjustable make sure you get the right one.

I assume you meant to say the speedo drive gears are colour coded? For the VSS, there is either the Disco 1 or Defender TD5 ones.

Thanks!

Thank you all for the input. I'll pull the trigger on the VSS first and see how it fits. If all is ok, I'll proceed with the rest.

I still haven't gotten around to this yet. I moved from Germany back to the US on a short suspense. I'd still like to upgrade my gauges to VDO and use the VSS, but it's not a priority at the moment. I'm in the rotary-wing aviator training pipeline at the moment, so I have little time to work on the 110.

I received a green VDO VSS bundled with my wiring loom. Any idea if that is the right one for a Def or Disco?

Edit: Looks like its YBE100530, for an LT230 Def. Still need to confirm that it will work on an LT95.

Paul,

Any update on this? Looking to switch over to VDOs if possible. Are you redoing the engine temp and Volt meter too?

No updates yet. I've been working on other bits. NTO 2006 300tdi ROW gauges came with my loom. I'll wait until I'm back on the road to worry about switching to other gauges, if at all. Although a pyro is on my to do list.
