What is the alternator used in the 2.9HS or equivalent that can be mounted??

What the highest output alternator that can be bolted in??

I understand this produces vacuum for the brake servo but assuming you went to hydroboosted brake. BTW has anyone put in hydroboost brakes in the D90??

Can't say that I have. I would verify what mounting kits are still needed and see if they have them. It is true that the mount points are the same, but not sure what the tranny hook up and cooling system options are available from them. I got mine from M&D and had someone put it in for me. Love the engine though.

I've actually wheeled and camped with Big Gord years ago and found him quite pleasant. While he can be opinionated he is very knowledgeable and if you have seen the work he does it is top shelf. There is a saying that you get what you pay for and it is true here. Anyone who wishes to operate a shop and feed his family needs to make some money. If you want to do it for a living and retire in something other than a tent you need to make more money. If I had the money to ask Gord to work over my 90 with a 2.8 I would do it over some backyardigan at half the price.

I didn't really get my hands on it but I saw it in Brazil in their Troller. I have yet to see it in a Rover, although I would love one!

I wonder when they came out with the Euro IV one? I had only seen the Euro III up until today.

Its a very tall engine. May not fit. Would need the new defender hood with the big bulge at the very least.

This is what my friend David Jackson at M&D UK is telling me. Seems a good runner though. What do the specs say?

I think that is 310 lb-ft, if my conversion is correct.

mmm, r380's, yumm.

Sounds great, but wouldn't it have a taste for transmissions? The 2.8 is already pushing the limit right?

Almost impossible to put in a Defender (or) Discovery. We have tried it and gave up on it.

- R380 gearbox not strong enough, only a ZF auto box might hold on it
- standard radiator of any Defender is to small, just like aircleaner and intercooler
- no adaptor for auto box available
- for LHD cars the pump of power steering will not fit, has to be relocated.
- electronics quite complicated, only the Troller version will work. This as only 170 Hp. So reprogramming of the ECU necessary to get the 190 hp again.
- other parts like high pressure fuel pump, electronic throttle have to be installed.

Ofcourse evertyhing can be solved but it will be a very expensive conversion.

Sure it is a nice engine but count on it being not cheap and it will even cost you more to install it.

I keep on driving my 2.8 TGV

Do they give measurements? Since you are doing such good detective work!

Due for cooling system hoses to be replaced and have what must be an obvious question....is the cooling hose kit the same for the 2.8L as the petrol 3.9/4.0? poking around they look the same, but one could say that about the power steering return hose too....

Brian,
Pendy told me that it uses almost all of the 300 tdi hose kit, with the oil cooling lines (that now runs coolant) being the only addional. and that's straight hose from a parts store.

Pendy, any additional thoughts/corrections? That's what I'm doing when I get home too.
