insuring an '83 ???

I've got all my daily drivers, and my 1970 and 1976 Austin minis insured with State Farm (the minis on some collector/user policy) but my agent is struggling with the 110.

It seems to problem is their 'collector' policy only works on vehicles 1980 and older - and they can't (no surprises) tie the vin up to anything. Their only suggestion so far is classifying it as a 1993 110 - which seems (for some reason) is an expensive policy....

Tell your agent if he can't make it work properly, then Liberty Mutual will in the form of an agreed value policy. They recently quoted me about $430 for a 110 valued at $30K, and that includes coverage with comprehensive and limited collision in Mass.

After what State Farm did down in Louisiana with the hurricane I would NEVER consider them for any insurance.

Farm Bureau had trouble with my vin as well. I had to repeatedly give them the vin and the year(several phone calls over a period of a week). I forget which letter in the vin code indicates the year, but my '83 came up as an '85 in their system. I explained that I didn't believe the '83 UK vin was set up on the current international vin sytem and that I had not transposed any letters or numbers. They "manually entered" the vin and off I went insured as an '83 110.

It took my State Farm agent 10 minutes and one call to the home office to get it done. No problem. While I've never had a claim on our home policy, six years ago an idiot in a Jeep crossed into my lane and caused a head on collision. He had no insurance, drivers license etc, admitted fault to the LEO. Based upon the uninsured rider on my policy, State Farm cut me check at a fair market value. No complaints here, other than my Disco was totaled.

I've been happy with State Farm here in VA, and they had no issues (or questions even) insuring my 110.
