Insurance - NYC

Hey All,
Looking for some insurance companies that people have had some luck with...especially if you live in NYC. I know I can Google too...I'm looking for Rover-specific recommendations though. I'm gearing up for a purchase and called my old insurance company after sending them my last insurance quote from when I actually had a car...and told them I wanted something similar, same price range, etc.; or for them to at least let me know a ballpark quote for the rover. I'm likely buying a place in Hoboken, NJ in April, so car only needs to be insured in NYC for a few months.

Anyway, long story short, my insurance company, ALLSTATE, f'd up and lapsed my insurance instead of suspending it and it's their policy not to insure someone with a lapse in insurance. I can't tell you how many freaking times I told them I didn't want a lapse in insurance on my record!!!!! POS's.

I seriously can't believe they did this. The last thing this chick from Allstate said before I sold my car was that it wouldn't count as a lapse and that I wouldn't have an issue the next time I bought a car (which I told her wouldn't be that long off).

Haha Barry I hate you. I'm getting closer to buying one and was just going to use my old insurance when I was made aware that it lapsed. Then said they couldn't insure someone new with a 15 yr old car. It would just be nice to have everything in line before I buy, you know?

USAA is the best. When I insured my tamiya wild willy, they offered the best coverage. They even gave me a special rider when I added a technigold motor.

Insurance

I had AIG for years. I couldn't bring myself to continue writing out checks to them after their debacle so I shopped around. Got Amica.
They are much cheaper and rated one of the best.
I pay about $1800 on a 97 Defender, 2007 Solara and a 2002 VW Cabrio.

Why Hoboken? You can live down the shore and take the train to work.
Too many Bergen county college kids pissing on the sidewalks for me.
I grew up there and miss the old days.

Glad I never had a defender when I lived in Hoboken. I had a prelude with a thule rack. I came out one morning and my car was parked in the usual spot but the rack was gone.

Thanks for all of the recommendations! I've never heard of Amica, but I'll give them a call to see what they can do.

Hoboken, mainly because right now I live in Tribeca and walk to my office at 7 WTC every morning. I hate commuting, so the PATH from Hoboken to WTC is pretty quick.
