Importing a Defender

Any referral for companies that would assist in or handle importing a Defender into the US?

Look up on the tool bar, see 'search'

Do 'advanced search'

click 'titles only'

type: 'importing'

feast upon the knowledge

Be careful if you deal with somebody in the UK direct as the deal can get sideways fast.

x-3 on Doug

I've put a message into Doug.
How did you guys find your trucks and deal/purchase them?

Yeah, that part is a lot harder. Doug only handles the importation after you find a truck, just because of all the shady crap you find on ebay.uk and what not.

Lots of people across the pond know about the 25 year rule, and are exploiting it to their benefit and your detriment. To be honest, if you are ready to buy a truck for thousands of dollars, adding in the cost of a plane ticket to the UK to visually inspect your truck should be part of the equation.

To make things worse, Doug was just talking to a DOT/Customs inspector about how they are ratcheting up inspection of imported Defenders.

I can locate the vehicles and have them inspected overseas through a net work of people I work with. It is best to stick with a 25 year old vehicle as original as possible and convert once stateside.

Old Defenders are getting hard to find that are not rusted to pieces and many of the adverts for vehicles overseas are fraudulent.

Let me know what you are looking for and a price range and I will see what I can find.

No obligation.

VIACAS scan on the container (correct Doug?)

Local PD inspected and verified VIN in order to receive new title in MA, but that was to make sure no VIN tampering (they wouldn't know a Puma TDCi from a V8)

I was questioning more on the lines of pre- purchase inspection. I'm not looking or interested in the re-vin/modified trucks out on the market. Looking for a 90 sw. Looking at option of importing one vs purchasing a nas 90.

It's actually a VACIS, built right here in San Diego. Customs always has the right to open containers and search to their heart's content.

Each state has it's own procedures for titling and registration, some (CA, CO, NY, MA come to mind) are harder than others due to smog laws.

The 21 year EPA and 25 year DOT laws are what will be enforced at the customs point of entry, then you deal with your local state's DMV for titling and registration. They don't sing from the same hymnal.

Foley and these guys: http://www.countyanddefendercentre.co.uk/ gave me really good pictures and description, neither seemed to shy away from the ugly truth if present. DO NOT BUY FROM MRM SPECIALIST VEHICLES WITHOUT A PERSONAL INSPECTION!!

x 3 on Foley SV, they are excellent. Honest and deeply expert on all things Defender. I bought my 110 from them ten years ago and have never looked back.

Vacis is an x ray. I'm told its so powerfull the contents look like a black and white picture in a magazine-ie highly detailed.
That requires lots of gamma- enough to kill pretty much any mammal.

Vacis is a given on any container with Land Rovers in it. Then theres frequent USDA inspection's and the dreaded "intensive exam".
