Importing

Anyone here ever import a Defender from Africa? I have a friend from Ghana who says they're all over the place, are left hand drive and don't have rust issues because of the weather there. He's going back next summer. I told him to find me a nice truck!

Never imported from Africa, did import my 90 from England though... Couldn't think it would be too much different, I'd have to ask my Dad if he knows any differences, he used to do a lot of import from South Africa and a few other countries in his old job.

Make sure it is power washed very carefully. They may put a USDA hold on it and if they find any dirt can refuse it entry or make you have it cleaned on the docks which will result in a lot of expense. I was told that in Norfolk they may not allow cleaning on the docks as they are concerned something may wash into the Chesapeake bay.

Probably the same basic issues as a Defender from any other country:

1) Is the seller going to honor his side of the bargain
2) Can you get it shipped from where the truck resides to your nearest port
3) Is the truck 25 years old or older

Try talking to MSGunny who is on here sometimes, mostly guns&rovers and RNforum. He brought back his S3 rover when he was stationed in Africa.

I guess they missed the apples in the back of mine when it came off the boat...
