As the others have stated. In the UK you can update the V5 legally as you make changes to the vehicle so that what it is matches what the V5 (title) says. It isn't anything sneaky or illegal there. It does not prove it was the "original" engine. It just shows that what you are importing matches the paperwork and would give you a much better shot at importation vs. a gas V5 with a diesel... especially if you shipped it roll on roll off.
Again, others stated this correctly I was not suggesting anything sneaky.

If you want to be 100% legal and you are that worried about changing the V5 then you'll need to leave it in the UK as technically US road use of a non-EPA certified engine is illegal, as is importation of the engine across a US border.

Either way you'll need to sign EPA documents that say the vehicle complies, and as the Mazda engine doesn't... well you know.

Most here don't care (myself included), but I agree if you are about to do this then maybe making it public is not the best thing to do.

If you follow the "letter of the law" it can not legally be imported.

In my imports they look at the date on the V5. So that would mean you can import that truck after January 15th 2009.

Others may have had luck with the date of manufacture, but the DOT Customs guys I get stuck with have only wanted to see the V5, they will consider nothing else.
