Import of 110 Td4 / my '08 / personal property - moving from Germany

Hey guys!
A while back I asked here on d-90 how to get my 110 from Austria over here legally. I learned it's not an issue w/ my oneten since it's a my '84. I have my LR not here yet since I just moved and have to get all the other stuff organized first.

Anyhow, do you think there is a chance to bring in a 110SW Td4 my '08 legally? Somebody I know from a German forum will move to Michigan shortly and is thinking about bringing his LR with him. He will be here with a 3-year visa. I remember there was a way to import the truck as "personal property". Somebody has to own the truck at least for six months prior to moving and then it can be imported. Any idea who can answer this? Should I go to DMV and ask? Anybody on here who did that before?

Thank you,
Robert

I knew a professor at Duke who did that in the 80's with a Mercedes Benz but I have no idea if it is still possible.

You pay a bond. Call Doug Crowther - Dividing Creek Imports.

when I moved to Michigan from The Netherlands, I couldn't find a way of doing this. Brought a '83 truck instead. I would be interested in knowing what I might have missed though !

As for your friend with the '08: Page 33 I think will apply but I didn't study the entire text:

http://www.epa.gov/otaq/imports/docu...27.pdf#page=43

Just a note when considering applying the 25 year rule for vehicles:

http://isearch.nhtsa.gov/files/20592.ztv.html

I'm not an RI or anything but I enjoy the subject. if you have any questions let me know maybe I can find something or at least share with you what I did importing a few vehicles.

Oscar, is the same photo as your avatar in your facebook taken on Houston street? Looks like Houston St in NYC.
