I'm trying to get the automatic gear shift handle off and I need some help.
I've gotten off the cap on top and popped out the button now it seams to be just wedged on with no screws or clips.
Do I need to hammer it up and off? or is it glued on?
Thanks,

Exclamation Shifter Handle re-assembly FYI

http://www.defendersource.com/forum/...hlight=shifter

Be careful with the retaining clip inside which secures the button. Once you bend it up (to remove) and then back it is weakend and can break. If it does the clip might pop off and if the wife is driving the 90 she'll call you all freaked out that it wont go in gear

To be sure, you might want to stop by home depot and get a small "E Clip", I believe it is 3/16" which will securely retain the bushing.

Just a FYI

Welcome,

Yes the "E Clip" is the answer - about .50cents at Home Depot. Not certain about the size, I went out to my shop but could not find package. I beleive is smallest they sell - 2 in a package. You can find the in the specialty hardware drawer section.

They did not sell a snap ring that would be right size but the e clip is better anyway as it avoid the need for a snapring tool.

I have read where owners could not get their auto-90 into gear is it would not come out of "lock" and in many cases it was that ^%&*% clip as once it pops of the button will not lift the inner release.

Cheers!
