Ignition Switch? Turns itself off.

The vehicle starts but as soon as I let go of the key it turns itself off? If I physically hold the key I can keep it runnnig but again when I let go it turns itself off.

Do I just need to replace the entire switch?

Thanks in advance as always!!

After searching:

Looks like the same problem?

The little switch at the end of it has probably come apart. I have a thread on it with pics if you search under my name.

I would agree, but I just replaced that part. This is acting different, when that switch went I got no power/lights and the key acted normally.

This time it seems the key just won't stay in the "on" position.

I think I need this part?

I got the whole switch and lock with two keys from Rovahfarm for $75. My switch was for an '84 defender. I don't know what the price would be on a '94 switch / lock. I just installed mine this weekend. I had a very similar problem... my switch had a bad spot where the voltage would drop to 3 volts and the car would stop if the key / switch would return to that specific spot after returning (springing back) from the "start" position.

OK, so the electrical piece controls keeping the key in the "on" position?

When that piece split two months ago and I replaced it I don't recall it effecting the key, it only seemed to involve the electrical contacts.

I should have. The first one only lasted three months. I should have known, after the first install the key never felt quite right.
