Ignition Switch Replacement

I need to replace the ignition switch on the 90. I have the steering wheel shroud off and can see the part I need to get to.

What other parts of my dash do I need to remove to get to this and remove the old one and replace it?

Or is there another easier way to accomplish this?

Thanks,
Alex

This should help. You're just talking about the little ignition switch, right, and not the entire steering column lock? Two small screws - one you can see and one you can't.

so...now that I have my dash apart is there anything else I should check on while I'm replacing this?

Thanks for the links and the photos. After I took the gauge cluster off it was a whole to easier to figure it out.

I made sure all bulbs were working, cleaned it up, graphite on mechanical controls, etc...

If you're thinking about LED, I guess now is time...

I'm having trouble with my ignition on a 97 NAS D90. It will start, but I have to hold the key between the on and start position or else it will die. Seems like maybe just the key part of the switch is shot, kinda feels like a spring broke and it's not staying far enough into the on position. I really can't afford the whole assembly right now. Does anyone have any insight or experience with this?

Hi, Rowdy90.

Well, this problem is usually related to the back of the ignition lock (ignition switch), not the entire ignition lock assembly. Look at the linked image. I refer to the part where you can read "VA" upside down.

This image is from the post mentioned before by fellow rijosho (http://www.defendersource.com/forum/...6&postcount=56)

In case you need the part numbers (for 2007> years):
QRF500090 - LOCK ASSEMBLY-STEERING COLUMN
YXB500170 - SWITCH - IGNITION

For models from 1987-2006, part number vary...
QRF100880 - LOCK ASSEMBLY-STEERING COLUMN
PRC2734 - SWITCH, WITHOUT STEERING COLUMN LOCK, STARTER, WITH DIESEL ENGINES
PRC8230 - SWITCH, STARTER, 2.5L 4 CYL TDI L/R
.
.
.

You should check http://lrparts.net.ru/ (online microcat) to be sure.
