Ignition Module Update

My ignition module has gone out on my 1994 D90 and I am trying to decide on replacing with the original module found on the distributor or going with some type of relocation update.

I found this on ebay and was wondering if anyone else had used it.

Any other thoughts or comments are welcome and appreciated.

Thanks
Keith

Another good option is to replace the distributor with the Mallory unit which I and several people here have done. You can get them from Amazon for $171. It gets rid of the ignition module and I have been running it for 6 or 7 years now (I have yet to even replace the cap but I do have a new cap for my rebuild, just to spoil the engine a little ;-)) Just another option. If you go that direction, you need to run a ballast resistor at the coil. Ron at Century Performance (.com) knows a crapload about buicks/rovers especially pertaining to ignition. FYI.

I noticed the other day my Mallory ballast resistor (MAL-700) was cracked in half within the holder. I talked to online tech @ Century and when placing an order received an email back that they do not have any resistors in stock and that they are thinking of not offering Mallory products any longer.

So I need to find out why the resistor split in 2 (truck still runs as the inner wire is together) and curious as to why Century would look at not carrying Mallory as their site seems to have abundance support and information about their product.

I've seen Ron @ Century along with Mallory dizzy info posted up on this site a bunch so I figured this might be of interest to people on the board.

What is wrong with the factory relocation kit? Pull one off a 95 and down DI or RRC and put in a new ignition module.

I have not talked with Ron, but my guess is that Mallory is now being offered just about everywhere and that really degrades their ability to make a profit. I will probably give him a call when I have a sec

Good point, I was wondering if it was that or if they were having issues with Mallory being a good product.

Would be interested to hear what the reason is, if you talk to that guy Ron.

Sorry to be so late to the game regarding this post. You mentioned above that the Mallory sells for sub $200? I can't find one for under $700. Any suggestions?

Was going to say that I use the Mallory a lot and if they are available for $171 I'll order a dozen. I'm checking right now but can't find the right part #.....they do have some killer deals though.

Yup, they do have the right one (4768901) for about $300 which is a good deal. I'm ordering a couple right now.

Buy a bakers-dozen and I'll buy one off of you! I'm looking for the Mallory # 4768901 for my 94 ST. Thanks. So this is a good deal from Amazon? http://www.amazon.com/Mallory-476890.../dp/B000FVU7L6

Looks like it. If you do rebates ( http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/image...157265168_.pdf ), it's only $266 to your door.

Pretty good deal, right? I'm buying it. I'll use my original drive gear.
