I'll be driving from Kansas to CA around the 13th/14th, if you guys plan on doing this and those dates work, I'd be happy to caravan it with you, acting as a back-up/recovery vehicle. We can even mount another camera to the front of my truck to help with the video diary.

I have a set of doors here that we could bolt on for the trip. They are SIII/SIIa but they will fit. You can keep the front ones (they are rusty but will work as cores for parts/glass etc.) I would fit series doors as they are cooler with the removable tops and much cheaper.

I suggest Mike pick me up in Philly or Buffalo (actually I will be in buffalo for the holidays which is perfect because it is right on I-90 west) on the way and we can do real cannonball style driving in shifts with a bed in the back. I wonder how fast a carb V8 110 will go :-) ECR should be able to get temp tags.

I am free from slightly after X-mas to Jan 9th. Let me know!

If I can solve the temp tags/insurance issue then I'm all for this plan of attack. Timing isnt an issue at all for me, so I'm totally open to whatever works for the drivers. Southwest has some pretty sweet one-way fares available to specific destination cities - depending on the price if the tix, I could cover more than one.

I'll call ECR Mike duing the first part of the week and see if he can arrange tags.

I dont think I mentioned yet that you all rock

Either buff or phil is a GO - no issues there.

If Mike doesnt mind flying into Manchester NH (since that is allegedly his home) then airfares are going to be OK as long as I can book 'em 2-3 weeks out

So Rob - how many trans cores need to go in the back? Can they be arranged to form a comfy bed for Ron?

I'll call Allen and find out...last time I spoke with him he had about 10, I think, but he sent a couple Fedex last week. I'm sure we can fill the back of the 110. If you need to leave room for a bed, we could maybe fit 3 or 4?? or maybe a few more if we're creative. How many seats does the 110 actually have in it at this time? My number is 505-872-7818....call me and we can discuss it.

Hell, I might even be able to come up with a Southwest ticket if I could ride along...but I doubt that the vouchers we have are good for the holiday period. When are you planning to do this? I have a four-season tent and 10-degree down bag so I wouldn't mind camping.

I love driving at night. Give me a can of Copenhagen and a good CD and I'm good to go!

I may ambush this flight to freedom. The troll in KS charges a very large toll.

Good luck guys. Call if you need help.

Me too! Just did it last night....fresh cope, it satisfies.

Do you suppose there would be time for the Cafe press store to offer a special limited edition t-shirt to commemorate the epic journey?

It would be a priceless keepsake you would want to pass on to grandchildren.

I just got the evaluation report from ECR - does this sound like the kind of thing you want to roll 3k miles in?

-Battery missing
-Power steering leaks
-PS box mainshaft bad, box might just need adjustment
-Brake master damaged and needs to be replaced
-All wheel bearings slightly loose
-Both panhard rod bushings bad
-Rear pinion seal leak
-Rear transfer case output seal leak
-Rear crossmember shows some rust
-A arm link joint bad
-Driveshaft splines worn
-U joints worn
-Windscreen cracked
-Engine will not idle well, needs some choke to run smooth

Sounds like a runner to me!

Well, the battery and brake MC will have to be done before the trip....the other stuff will depend on the severity of the leaks/wear. Definitely sounds like an adventure to me! How about plates?

ECR says they can get plates for me. Maine for some reason doesnt title vehicles older than 15 years - but my state, Washington will process a registration into a title in such a situation.

ECR will have to get an inspection to get the plates, so they'll have to fix the brake cylinder etc. I have to admit - they're really going to an effort to take care of me - good bunch of guys.

$100 for a red top Optima from Costco.

It is a Rover. Add one gallon of ATF to your payload calculation and ready list.

Quote:
-PS box mainshaft bad, box might just need adjustment
More likely adjustment. Add seal kit to your ready list.

Quote:
-Brake master damaged and needs to be replaced
Gotta stop before you can go. This one makes the pre-trek check list for completion prior to leaving ECR.

Quote:
-All wheel bearings slightly loose
Better than frozen with rust.

Quote:
-Both panhard rod bushings bad
Add bushing to your ready list.

Quote:
-Rear pinion seal leak
It is a Rover.

Quote:
-Rear transfer case output seal leak
Ibid.

Quote:
-Rear crossmember shows some rust
Proof that you are in fact picking it up from the east coast.

Quote:
-A arm link joint bad
Proof that it has been driven previously.

Quote:
-Driveshaft splines worn
Ibid

Quote:
-U joints worn
Proof that the drive shafts have been hooked up.

Quote:
-Windscreen cracked
Great news. No need to worry now about the rock thrown from the semi in front of you outside of St. Louis. Also very good news that you will not be driving without a front windscreen ( e.g. lack of four doors currently)

Quote:
-Engine will not idle well, needs some choke to run smooth
This one also makes the pre-trek check list for completion prior to leaving ECR given that it may impact your fuel burn calculations.

Rob D - what does a r380 trans core weigh anyway? About 75 pounds? The truck doesnt have jumpseats, so I'd say 5 trans cores can fit in the back, more if you stack em. At least two can fit in in the rear seat passenger space. What does it cost to fedex a tranny core? Alby is a ways out of the way but the guys would probably cross your mountain pass than mine and they might want to stop in Vegas (valets love to park POS 110's) - so the south route might be the best plan.

A transfer box is a good bit heavier than an R380 gearbox!
