Hypothetically - Should I Worry?

350 miles from home, 50 miles from the nearest civilization(?) and the CHECK ENGINE light comes on. No, I do not have one of those gizmos that gives you a code read out (wouldn't know where to plug it in anyway) nor do I have a decoding ring to tell me what the code means. After relaxing with a cold one, what should I do?

on a '94, the code reader is by the passenger foot well (by passengers right foot), it should display the code in bright red LED characters... try to find that, then tell us what it says, and we can help you further.

You dont need the reader since your truck is OBDI. Im not sure where the display is on the 94's i think it might be under the dash.

See if it was an intermittent issue. Rest the unit by disconnecting the battery for a couple of minutes. Once you do this, you display box will show 02 (power disconnect) until you have run for a while.

No, but pull the box out and look at what the code is.

Easier way to reset the codes is to turn the ignition to on, then disconnect the ECU for a few seconds, then reconnect. You'll get a 02, the first start which is expected.
