Hydraulic Lifters

What does your engine do or sound like if one of your hydraulic lifters is bad?

Has anyone had a lifter or lifters go bad?

a continous rithmic tic somewhat similar to the arc of a disconected spark plug wire, or the tip of a pencil striking a table top in a rithmic fashion.
if you have ever paid attention to your engine during the first seconds after being started following an oil change or sitting for a week... that "loose metal rattle" is all the lifters charging.

Can I fix by just replacing the bad lifter or do I have to replace the whole set / do the whole cam break-in procedure and so forth?

If its ticking have you check the manifolds? Also marvel mystery oil is worth a shot, what oil are you using? Lifters are a big snowball, it becomes "while Im in there I might as well replace" projects.

It sounds like a clatter noise but you may have worn rockers as well where the push rod hits is very common on Rover v8s. Im planing on changing the lifters and rockers to Iskenderians soon.
