I am having custom 18" wheels drilled.
I researched online and came up with FIVE DIFFERENT SIZES of the HUB BORE for late 1990's Defender 90! :mad I know it's a 5 on 6.5 (165.1) and nut 16mmx1.5; but What is the real bore size?
This is what I found:
5.15 (130.81), 106.2, 124, 114.3, 113.
I can't help you with those sizes but I'm interested in the wheels your getting made! I should be picking up my D90 on Wednesday in Vancouver and driving it to Kelowna.
The wheels need to be hub centric, measure the inside diameter of your existing wheel and use the one closest... a lot of after market wheels aren't machined to be hub centric, that's why the large range of numbers...

I ordered them, 5 on 165.1 with a hub bore of 125 (no choice on the hub bore) .... 18x9 with a +20 offset
I will let you know next week when I try them out! And post a picture. Hope they work...... :grin
Bolt pattern lined up great as well as the +20 offset on a 18x9 (barely inside the flare). Toyo AT II looks excellent. I will need about a 5mm hub ring (125.1mm hub compared to the 114mm), and I am having an impact socket lathed as the hole does not quite fit the 24mm socket. Boy were lugs hard to find for an M16 stud.
Hi Jeff: iam talking with a wheel manufactuer about custom rims. Could you clarify some things.
What do you mean by "I will need about a 5mm hub ring (125.1mm hub compared to the 114mm)" Where did you find the proper lugs? I assume you did not use any kind of hub adaptor ?

On a custom wheel, hub rings gaurauntee the wheel remains centered if there is a gap between the hub and the bore on the wheels center hole. Custom Rings are hard to source/have made and are not mandatory if your stud holes are perfect. The Hub Bore of a Defender is 114.3mm (the center hole in the wheel) Get a wheel with the closest match to that, or have the milling shop make it 114.5mm to 115mm.
CUSTOM DEFENDER WHEEL SPECIFICATIONS:
Bolt Pattern is 5 on 6.5 (165.1) *this is a large pattern and most blank wheels are not designed for this pattern
Two ways to drill the bolt pattern:
A) Drill the holes tight (16mm) so that the studs are what keep the wheel centered (like the classic LR white steel wheels) Use typical M16 tapered lug nuts from an auto supplier. These are often a 24mm Hex (the smaller the hex the better) A 24mm nut means the socket holes need to be 33mm to fit the socket.
Defender hub studs are short (1.5?), so the mounting surface of the wheel should only be 1/2" thick (to allow 1" of thread)
B) Make the stud holes large to exactly accept the Defender alloy style lug nuts. (like the silver NAS alloys) This is a more complicated seated lug system. I do have these measurements if you go this route.

If you decide to go the adapter route, PM about an affordable adapter that accepts GM 6 bolt wheels.
I would love to see a LR P38 Mondial wheel in a 18x9 with a 5x6.5 PCD...
Kahn makes a 20" version which is a little oversized for most people.
It would be nice to have a high load rating for 110's and 130's that are loaded.
