how tough is it to replace 1.22 LT230 gears with 1.4 gears

Ashcroft offers 1.4 gears for the LT230 and I have a good 1.2 t-case (from my D90 90 conversion to diesel) that I could swap gears in - if any fool can do it. But I've never taken one apart before - let alone swapped gears.

Think it might be easier to pick up a complete 1.4 box and sell your 1.2. They come up FS here.

I posted a WTB for a 1.4 t-case earlier today and then did a Forum search for 1.4 units wanted. Looks like I'll have a long wait.

Thumbs up L230 TXcase

I think the transfer case will be a PITA to change the ratio. If it is anything like the R380 with regard to special tools Been down the R380 tool road. The tools are really expensive Best deal is to get the one advertised

Thanks.
Didn't realize it took special tools too.

I don't think you need any special tools.

had a talk with Doug Shipman today and he recommended that I stick with the 1.22 t-case I already have sitting in my shop.
Thanks for the advice and the lead on a 1.4.

No special tools. Other than a giant socket and a press/pullers, you really don't need special tools for an R380 either.

It's not that frightening. Mechanical skills but nothing uncommon. Did mine .
