How to test superwinch

The superwinch X6 on my truck had some seriously melted wires, both on the positive leads from the battery and the positive lead to the winch. The controller etc is shot as well. My question , is there a way to test the winch itself on the bench to see if its still good or shot?

You can jump a few of the wires to directly power the winch without using the controller. I forget exactly how to to it, but I bet youtube, or a search here could show you.
I've done it on an X9, but it was a few years ago.

I was able to free spool all the old wire rope off the winch so I'll take a look at the motor on the bench. I just need to find out if the electric motor is 12v and I'll head online to find out.
