Hey folks, I feel real dumb here, but I can't for the life of my figure this out.
I've got a new rear door latch that I'm going to install on a new tailgate that I'm converting to swingaway.
Surely there is some way to detach the outer handle so that I only have to drill holes in the tailgate the width of the two barrels, right? It doesn't look like there's a c-clamp in there, the tolerances are too tight. My other thought is it's pressure fitted. I have a puller (technically for plumbers) but is that the solution for pulling the handle off, then carefully hammering back on after install?
Otherwise my options are to A) drill a big enough hole to sort of snake the handle through but then it's unnecessarily massive or B) drill out the rivets/welds on the whole unit, take it apart, then reassemble it with nuts and bolts.
Another angle for fun:
I just know there must be an easy solution for this that i'm missing that would account for why it's too obvious for there to be tutorials anywhere online!
