How many tie rod ends do I need 2 or 4? Proline or Genuine?

Shop says mine need to be replaced and prefer to order them myself and save some $$$. Also, anyone one used the Proline version?

Thanks.

Get genuine...not a big fan of the aftermarket for these. You need 2 on the tie rod (in back of the axle), but keep in mind one is reverse thread. You'll also need 1 for the drag link (in front of the axle) if you're doing that one as well....can't recall which thread that is, but the Parts Manual should indicate. You'll probably be better off ordering them up yourself and having them shipped directly.

I'm with Jason on genuine parts for some things, but I make an exception for stone-age technology wear items like ball joints that are all probably made by the same manufacturer somewhere in the Far East or Eastern European countries.

I'd personally recommend getting on rovahfarm.com and ordering the cheapest R/H and L/H ball joints.

The aftermarket are actually different...the genuine are a sealed unit, whereas the proline/etc are tapped with a zerk and the boot is different (cheaper in my opinion). I "borrowed" an end from Huff, and he was not pleased when I handed him back a Proline . So I ordered up a genuine from RN and took the Prolines and put them in a box of trail spares.
