How do you remove the CV from the axle?

I have the front end completely dissasembled and the CV is holding onto the inner axle and won't let go. My book says tap with a mallet, no way, won't budge. I really need some help here, thanks!

Made it further than half of the other guys, but the Hammers won.

Get a bigger hammer.

Wiggle it a bit too, sometimes the splines wear and they lock together.

It will come apart.

Something like a vice, 2x4 and a 10lb sledge

Find a pipe that is just bigger then the axle. Then drop the axle into the pipe to remove the CV from it. Something like that.

I had one where the spring clip got jammed and was a biatch to get off. Broke the cage getting it apart with a hammer. The pipe method seems to be the safest.
