Hood Release Issues

Hello, I'm having hood release cable issues. The issue is that the cable has broken, several times. It originally broke inside the cab, and I would just reach under the grill and pull down on the cable to open it. Unfortunately, the cable has broken at the latch now so I have nothing else to grab onto. Yes, I know it's my own fault for being lazy and not properly fixing the problem, but when you live in Hawaii and the surf is good you've gotta have priorities.

Anyway, I'd appreciate any help anyone could offer for getting the bonnet open because I've got a bit of work I need to accomplish in there. Thanks for the help and Aloha.

And when its open, tie a loop of electrical wire to the latch and out of the passenger side of the grille as a backup. Actually it will probably get more use than the one inside!

Dont blame yourself, its your Defender's sense of humor.

Or install the older manual hood latch that you actuate through the grill

Thanks all, I'm definitely going to go one of those routes once I have it open. The problem is getting it open right now. I've taken the grill off but still can't quite get a finger on the latch to trip it. There is not enough cable left to grab. Ideas??

See if you can find a pair of needle nose pliars w/the 90 degree bend near the end...they should easily be able to reach up and grap the latch arm where the cable attaches, if you have the grill off...

Have someone put downward pressure on the Hood while trying to release it too...It will make releasing the latch easier. I had the same issue once, but my cable was still attached, so I was able to use pliars on the cable to pull the release.

I searched for the p/n for this and could not find it. I would like to install it on mine to get rid of the cable. Do you have it?

If this is for a NAS truck then you will have to some modification to the slam panel.

This is not to be taken lightly as there are many different versions over the years.
