Hood Louvers

Has anyone installed hood louvers on their truck? I was looking at putting these on.

Not exactly like that, but Doug Walker had some pressed into his hood. I'll find the thread on it. Hold on a sec....

*EDIT* Here's the link: http://www.defendersource.com/forum/...ead.php?t=6086

Scroll down towards the end of the thread, there's a short discussion on it.

I'm not saying that a discussion here is a bad idea though [:D] The louvers discussion is kind of hidden in that thread anyway. I personally love the idea of louvers although if I were to ever do it, I would go the route Doug did just because I think it looks a lot cleaner. Those that you posted are very good for a cheaper solution though that still looks decent. Thanks for the link!

I am getting them for free. You can't beat the price, I was just asking for input. My only concern is hot engine fumes heading into my vents below the windshield

yeah, you definately can't complain about THAT price! Sounds like a good deal to me. I think as long as your exhaust is solid and doesn't have any leaks, I don't think there would be a problem with fumes entering the front cabin vents, but the air would be warm which could suck if you don't have AC. I hadn't thought of that though, it'll be interesting to see what Doug has to say about it. Doug??

The NAS 110 has a solid dash, so the vents don't open! (Fresh air is drawn from the fender top vent.)

Chammy's louvers do throw a tremendous amount of heat from the already super-hot 5 liter engine, and that might be an issue if there were dash vents that could open. Unfortunately, I don't have a way to measure....

Do the louvers on the side of the hood! Where the holes are drilled.

Here is a picture of my louvers. There isnt any issue with heat coming in and they help with the under hood heat.
They are SS and purchase at a boat store.

With the overheating troubles I've had, I'm considering louvres, along the raised left and right perimeter of my hood. My concern is, with the second spare tire I've mounted there, how much the louvres will structurally weaken the already-stressed hood? Does anyone have experience with the combination of louvres (not holes in the vertical edges of the hood, but louvres on the horizontal surface) and a hood-mounted spare?
