hood insulation?

Has anyone tried to insulate the hood to their D-90? I did a search and I am am not concerned with noise control, rather looking to protect the hood and paint from the heat of the engine. The wax jobs I do on the hood never seem to last long due to the engine heat and was wondering if insulation would solve the problem?
Not sure what material to use that isn't flamable

My hood on my SW is insulated... It is off a TDI 90. It looks good and works well.

I used some stuff called Peel N Seel or Peel and Stick, not sure of the spelling but it is used on the roofs of houses in cold climates. It looks just like Dynamat. I bought 100 square feet of the stuff for $89. I lined my trucks headliner, bulkhead, footwells, floors, seat boxes, doors and hood. Made a huge difference in noise and heat. It's a peel and stick application and aluminized on one side. Works very well under the hood.

There is a special insulation piece for the defender that attaches with tapping screws. One of the guys at Expedition Exchange has it on his Defender hard top, although I'm not sure if they sell it. It looks really good and goes on in minutes. I was thinking of doing the same thing for the exact same reason.

What I'm wondering is if it will make the engine run much hotter. I've got my temperature running great right now and don't want to mess it up. Any thoughts on if this would make a significant difference or not?
