Congrats on the truck. I don't own a diesel land rover, but 5w 40 rotella synthetic available in gallon jugs at walmart seems to be popular for them.

I also have an aux heater if you are interested (from your other wtb post)

call rovers North. there are two different oil filters. One gets changed more often. and I think from reading LRO magzine the TD5 uses synthetic oil. RN can tell you which kind.

Oil Change

There are two filters - the cyclonic filter, in the aluminum housing in front of the turbo and the spin on filter "underneath" the turbo. You don't have to change the spin on as frequently, but I do anyway. They aren't that expensive.

As far as oil goes, Mobil 1 5-30 meets the specifications in the users manual. That is what I have been using for the last 50K miles ...

Hope this helps.

PS - Get a copy of Rave ....

You should use a diesel engine oil as it properly deals with the soot.

Rotella T6, 5W-40, Mobil Delvac 1, Mobil Turbo Diesel Truck.

Basically 5w-40 is what most small diesels ive dealt with use, i run Rotella 5w-40 in my tdi vw, but i used to run Mobil's 5w-40 before they dropped it a long ways back, but they sell it again so whichever one of those 2 you find i would use.

What, the oil? no, Td5 oil is much "superior" in quality compared to what the book says the 2.5 NA uses.

Can't remember off hand what the specs are for the 2.5 NA, but the Td5 should have synthetic stuff.

The suggestion above would be a good choice for the 2.5 NA in Maine or anywhere that gets "cold".
