hey randy

I can believe it.

glad you found the problem. when you get the new one installed turn the engine over by hand at least twice to make sure everything is moving correctly.

Cool, glad it wasn't anything too sinister. without checking microcat (my PC has crashed funnily at the moment and i can't boot up MC, i think it might be ERC9054 (this is the 4 cylinder NA and TD version... Tdi may be the same)

before you refit it all, just try pushing the top of that valve down, make sure it's free to move, just in case the timimng gear had jumped a tooth and the piston smacked the valve up, causing the breakage.

Hopefully it was just a crap made part, that's all!

Good advice from Jim A

I have heard from a couple folks about valves sticking in the valve guide. So check for smooth operation of the valve as well.

My mistake, it's ERR559 for 200Tdi, the locknut is ERR560

If the valve cap has dissapeared (into the sump) and you can't find it, it's LJC100270

The valve cap was sitting right next to the valve. Ordered a new part. should have it by friday. The valve seams to move fine Once I install it, I will crank the engine by hand to check everything though.

Thanks everyone so far. Nothing like some quick pointers to get the ball rolling and help figure out the problem. this site ROCKS...

Must have been an intake valve, I have seen that happen with an exhaust valve and you would have been describing an entirely different noise

Yup... Was an intake valve. IT was not making any strange noises at all... Just running rough. Sounded fine other then that.

My father will be happy when we get the part today.

THe valve seems to be fine and not sticking. I am guessing faulty land rover parts...

Randy.....are you running OEM on the valves/rockers, etc, or did you replace with some aftermarket stuff. Likely you are OEM. Don't need to tell the vibration from the diesel can exploit even the smallest weaknesses over time.

Sorry for your troubles.....really a PITA. Did you get it fixed??

I just spoke with RN who stated the same thing.. THey said they had a problem with a rebuilt 300tdi they sold and it used non OEM adjusters and they were breaking. I just ordered a bunch to replace them. The ones that broke do have a slight different crown then the OEM one I replaced last month so we will see... I never would have thought that...

Ok... Just replaced the broken adjuster again and replaced 2 more with new ones just incase. RN only had 3 in stock. I now have 4 new ones and 4 old ones in there. I have the other 4 on order to replace as well.
After replacing them, It runs like a top again. I spoke with M&D who built the motor and they said they never had a problem like this. But he is also sending me a new set of adjusters as well. Everyone seems to think they are a faulty batch of adjusters..
