Help! Stuck in the Mojave desert w alternator problems

I attempted a crossing of soda lake. Crossing was treacherous - lots of corrosive mud. I went through the lake at high RPMS (3000-40000) to keep my speed up (10-30mph)

Halfway through, the battery light came on. Checking. THE voltage, I'm at 12.2 when running, 12.5 when off. Alternator seems mechanically fine and there is no blown fuse.

Any ideas? Could the corrosive salt mud damaged the alternator?

Connections are fine. I can read the battery voltage at the alternator when truck is off.

Just sprayed down the alternator with fresh water and it seems to be working now. Going to try to make it to baker.

Could it also be because of heat and it just cooled down while we were inspecting? Not sure.

Action alternator, ~9 months old.

So you tried to cross Soda Lake with all the rain and what not that fell in the area in the last week or so?

Get to baker and hit the car wash ASAP.. that is some naaasty stuff you have now covered your truck in. Makes east coast road salt look like water in comparison on the corrosive scale.

Possible, but it seemed fine when inspected while vehicle was on.

We're a few miles out of baker so all seems fine now

I would like to know though since the experience makes me hesitate about going back into the desert.

I have seen generator brushes stuck from dried mud. All we had was some lemonade to pour on them but it worked. True story.
