Help..Replacing door hing bolts

I am getting ready to buy a stainless steel bolt kit for the door hinges for my 94 defender 90 and wanted to know if someone might be able to help me with some technical questions. After looking at the hinges I have questions on how I would get the bolt that attach to the car rather than the door off. Do I have to take off the dash?
Thanks in advance for you help.

All the bolts on the bulkhead can be removed from the outside. They screw into captive nuts (which some call "J-nuts") which are also removeable from the outside once the hinge is out of the way. They are also droppable into the bulkhead cavity and difficult to remove, so I like to tie a little wire to them before I take them out.

Thanks Jim for your help, I really appreciate it. I just wanted to make sure I am clear on what you are saying... If I am able to get the hinge bulkhead screws loose from the outside, I should be able to replace the captive nuts and the bolt from the outside? How does the bolt attach to the bulkhead from the outside?
Thanks again for your time.
Mike

Mike the bulkhead bolts screw into a captive nut that is not welded but crimped onto the bulkhead.
The bolt may fight you to come loose, if this is the case you should use an impact driver (not an impact wrench) make sure you use a Pozidrive #4 on the bolts. To remove the other bolts you need to remove the door panel. Unless you want to spend an hour re-aligning each door my very strong recommendation would be to replace one bolt at a time.
