HELP! Intermittent Power Failure

I have scoured the archives and found some useful information here, but nothing that matches my Defender's issue exactly.

I have a 1997 Defender 90 and recently, the engine power hiccups. As in, I'm driving along and the truck studders, loses engine power momentarily and powers back up and I'm driving along just fine again.

I can hear either the main fuel pump relay or started relay cycling (clicking on and off) when this occurs.
I cannot replicate it when the vehicle is parked and idling. It runs just fine, starts just fine. Only when in motion, so far over 30 mph.

Any ideas?

Ignition Switch. Just peeled the melted connectors off of it. Keep this in mind of you experience the same symptoms.

Very interesting. I have had a similar problem in the past with my '94 - i'd hear the relay click, she'd lose power, then withing seconds hear another click and it would regain power. She died on the trail recently and the fuel pump relay clicked on/off rapidly. I swapped relays to try determine if it was bad, throwing one I had on my arb as well (same silver relay) but couldn't get it to run again. Maybe my ignition switch is going bad too...

It is cheap enough insurance to buy a new one. AB has them for $39.95
The two main wires on mine had been overheated and the plastic potting the blade was in was allowing
the contacts to intermittently lose connectivity.

Dan,

Can you elaborate a little on your problem as I seem to be having similar symptoms with my 110. I have an intermittent loss of engine power ONLY between 2,000 and 3,000 RPMs. Runs fine at start, idles beautifully, but 50% of the time it hiccups and stutters dramatically between 2,000 and 3,000 RPMs. Once the needle gets past 3,000 it is flawless. Does this RPM range match up with your problem?

Thanks!
