Help Identifying engine

Hey Guys, I've been a fan of Denfenders for a long time, but i'm about to pull the trigger and pick up my first one. I need a bit of help identifying the engine on the 90 that i'm looking at.

I ran the VIN (SALLDVAY....) and if i'm reading it right, the engine that should be in this is the 1.8L K-Series. I've looked for pictures of this engine and I can't find much, but the ones I do find don't look like this. Also, the dealer says that it's a 2L. Below are the pictures of the engine I have. Someone suggested that it could be a T-Series engine, but the VIN# is making me doubt that.

Thanks for the help.

2.0 L Mpi Engine, Defenders with this enige were only made for the Italian market in the mid 90's and manely for the police, or maybe even only for the police.

Thanks. I must have read the VIN coding wrong. I did find a couple pictures of the engine you mentioned and it does look pretty close to the one in the picture above.

From my research, someone correct me if I'm wrong, this engine is a pretty decent engine, but a bit under powered in a Defender (unless Turbo Charged)

The 2lt Mpi Disco was a bit... sluggish but in a 90 don't see it being to bad of a motor, there was a utube video back along with a 90 powering at 90mph, with a bit of tuning should be ok? It has a R380 on the back end? Price it low!

I had 2 of these , both in defender 90 and 110, driving is not bad, pulls quite wel, but not with a trailer ... MPG is quite bad.

Supply of spare parts / service items is hard in Europe, in Canada I would have thought even harder....

I'm not too worried about speed or anything... but you mentioning the R380 kinda gets me a little worried. I just looked it up and it doesn't sound too amazing.

I'm not too worried about MPG or really towing capacity. I'll just be using it for the odd drive into town and to take my dirtbike (via trailer hitch mount racking) out into the bush.

You did mention something that i've been thinking about and that's part availability. Any Defender parts aren't common here in Canada, but I can't imagine a rare engine being easy at all to find parts for.

Defender

I've seen this defender in the local autotrader in Montreal and since it is not there anymore I'm guessing you bought it? If so, how do you like it? How's the engine? I'm thinking about getting a defender from the same dealership where you got yours and just wondering how you like it and how is the build quality?

I actually didn't end up buying it, only because I tried to negotiate the price and then anytime after that i tried to call or email they would ignore me.
