Help! 200Tdi VDO EGT probe location

I have searched the forum, google, all the other forums and haven't found my answer. I purchased the VDO vision EGT gauge and probe. PN 310-153. Gauge is in fine but I can't figure out the best place to drill and tap the exhaust manifold. It looks like the probe is too long unless I go in the "V" between #2 & #3. Anyone wiling to post up some pics of their install of this gauge and sender? Thanks.
Chris

I wish somebody made a plate that goes between the turbo and the manifold that is threaded for a probe. Hint, hint for one of you machinist types..........

Best place would be in the first inches after the turbo ? Easy to drill an hole in the down pipe and install the probe with pre-pierce clamp. That's how we do it on airplanes.

But after the turbo you do not get the full EGT reading?

thanks everyone, Roverman...is that the same probe that I have? My concern in the depth of the probe (being too long).

Don't put it after the turbo. The readings are not good there. Where shown or lower down on the manifold. The manifold is thick enough to drill and tap.

I have seen them in both the 1st and 4th manifold runners, no bung just drill and tap the cast iron. Do not install post turbo. Things are considerably cooler post turbo and readings are of little value.

Yep- hadn't had coffee yet.
Was up late watching weather channel. We have a contract on a house on the Carolina coast @ Glouchester right where Arthur came ashore across the Shackleford Banks-ie direct hit on the property.

Maybe Raub will post up a picture of his which is in the 4th cyl runner, ie great access.

I have the VDO probe, you need the length in the gas flow.

Hoping all you East coast people are OK.

stay safe

Please post up a picture. I need to instal an EGT but I'm not wanting to take everything apart to drill the hole.

A little hard to see behind everything. 1/8" NPT compression fitting.

Perfect pic John. Any concern about the metal bits that fall inside while drilling?

Try and be careful to keep the pieces out. It is not a big worry in my mind.
