Heater fan control

Have a 1986 90.

Noticed that my fan control makes three clicks. All three are around an inch from the bottom. The actual fan doesnt kick on until the last click at the far bottom.

Once set to the far bottom position the fan is pretty strong.

If I follow the cable to the engine compartment, can I make adjustments? Or can the fan controller behind the gauges be adjusted.

Not sure if this is how they all work. Just didnt want to waste time trying to adjust a fan control that is working properly.

amityd90 had a great write up on it last year - heater cable or something like that is probably a good search to start with.

What fun would posting a link be? The super user prefers to chastise users who ask questions that were possibly answered in 1987 again.

It's best to pass along the skills. Go to advanced search and search heat cable by AmityD90 and it should come up.

if you have high speed only it would be a bad blower resistor .........

Count down to 7000 posts ...you can do it Josh!

Where would you find the blower resistor?

depend on the unit behind the switch assembly or near the blower motor + wire .. power runs through it and regulates the speeds when it goes bad there is no resistance so you get high speed only ..
ill run outside and check have 2 D90 here with ac

------ Follow up post added October 17th, 2012 05:15 AM ------

the 97 has factory a/c ..looks like it has a electronic blower module between the fan assembly...the 94 has a different unit cant see the blower unit right now should be a ceramic resistor in the blower case somewhere with 3 or 4 wires attached to it

my bad i did a josh and jumped into the conversation without actually reading from the top.....
the cable controls the heat temp regulates the incoming air to the matrix .. the switch is has a internal resistor that regulates the power to the blower for speeds ....
sorry for the confusion ran out of coffee this morning .....off to check out a d90 with 20k on it ..

Well, it always seems to take you 3 posts to get the answer right, so you'll be at 7k soon enough with all the help you've been giving out lately!

You don't have a problem until you hit 10k.
