Heater amp's

Hi all, After replacing the amp gauge I noticed that the heater ,when on, draws the guage down to 11 ish amp's from 13.5(100amp alt) and wondering if this is normal? Never knew what it was before due to no working guage

did call a popular tech line only to be left feeling like a idiot from a smart a#s kid who couldn't answer the question

It should not pull the voltage down that far. I suspect your battery is bad. If you are not really knowledgeable with electrical, I would get the battery and alternator tested at an auto electrical shop. Seeing as you are calling volts amps, I'm guessing that would be a good plan ...

sorry about delay in your pm. yes, you should not see a drop below 13. volts at all from the heater. The heater is grounded through the switch, but has a straight positive lead to the heater fan. if you have a bunch of funky wiring, you could see some weird stuff if the voltmeter has custom wiring and sharing with the heater. check against OEM wiring diagram. and yes, if your battery is shot, it won't have the capacity to moderate the amp draw. but i suspect this is a ground issue on the gauge or heater since you didn't mention other battery related issues like starting and such.

that clarifies the issue. this isn't about your battery or alternator at all. you have some bad connections. disconnects are causing your positive path to find alternate paths through smaller gauge wires and causing voltage issues at different terminal points.
