So after a rather strange failure of my ignition switch (thanks to those who suggested this) due to some poor wiring by a previous owner my head unit is on the fritz. When I got in the D90 today from my mechanic the stereo wasn't working. No problem as I figured just to enter the code. Well I can't get the display to read code anymore, it only did it once. I entered the right code but now the display will read ****_0 or __***, etc, etc. I am wondering if some water damage killed it or not. Its in a 97 and I know you can hold down the 4 button to reset the code callin but now the display doesn't read any english anymore just weird symbols. Is it lost? If so can I somehow adapt the CD changer in the 97 to an aftermarket unit?
I sure have, I pulled the power and let it sit for about 30 seconds. Tried it twice. When it should say code in it just says code and the rest of the display has other symbols showing. When I try to type in the code the first digit doesn't even appear then the second two do but not the last and the last few spots on the display just light up but nothing.
I seem to recall that once the wrong code is entered (whether or not you really entered the wrong code but if the sequence is screwed up somehow) then you need to leave it all on (untouched) for an hour before retrying to enter the code again...

Yeah I've done that on 2 hour cycles all day, I think it must be gone. I don't mind replacing it just sort of pissed it crapped out. I may just go to a full marine head unit to replace it but I would like to keep the changer but don't think it will be possible.
are the radios from the 95 or so discoveries the same as well or are they different beasts all together?
