Hardtop Rear Gas Shocks Replacement Question!!!

Ok. I need to replace the rear gas shocks off a NAS fiberglass hardtop. OEM #ALR8360. I simply want to know if I can replace with this: #MXC7833 gas strut. It's the SAME size, looks EXACTLY the same, even made by the SAME company! But, of course, since the OEM was produced specifically for the defender, it costs 10x more! When I asked the parts rep, of course, he says "It's different". Can anyone help me with this??? Have you replaced your shocks with another brand or part number without a prob???????

I could swear that AmityD90 already told you exactly what to buy for struts in one of the other door shocks threads you started. Search your own threads...

probably has to do with the weight of the hatch.

Same as the ones on a RRC upper tailgate I believe, MXC7833.
The only difference with all gas struts will be in the rating of the strut. They usually come in a wide range of forces from 15 lbs to over 100. A strut can be identical in every way...size, length, and yet be far different in lift force.
Pretty sure the ones you are asking about will be just fine. Only problem I can see is that if the tailgate is too light weight it may be harder to close with stronger struts.

You can get the range rover part (aftermarket) from rock auto for less than $10.
