Hard Chrome

I also have noticed some older models are chrome and new ones black oxide. What is this about? Im restoring the money pit and wondering which is better option hard chrome or black oxide? Mine are not pitted just surface rust where the coating has worn off.

Another though has anyone ever had there swivel balls ... That sound very painful.... Serious is re-chrome a viable option?

Swivel balls did come in Chrome up through the late 99 or early 2000. Now they are black "coated" the black coating does hold up a bit better than the chrome did. I hope this helps.

Eric

P.S. Buck I think he missed posting the first paragraph of his thought somehow.

Really it was before that they switched over to black. More like late 1997. Series owners have had swivels rechromed for years.

Your right what happened to the first part of my post? Weird... The question was... I have noticed two types of Swivel Ball s a Chrome plated finish and a Black Oxide... I need to change one or both of mine and I was just kicking around the idea of having my old ones hard chromed... If cost is a consideration maybee re oxide Any body ever redone there's?
