half shafts

Read somewhere that D90/Defender half shafts (10 spline) are stronger than the Disco (24 spline) is this true?? I did a search but couldn't find it again.

Checked the mircocat but the part numbers are all over the place, early Disco 1 is differnent, but the later Disco1 but is the same as the early 90's

When did the Disco change to 24 spline?
When did the 90's change to 24 spline? I am taken the reference to the spline count is at the diff?

They are close to the same. The later model 24 spline shafts are necked done to almost the same diameter as the 10 spline. You can see Ashcroft test results here: http://www.ashcroft-transmissions.co...0halfshaft.JPG

Change to 24 spline was around 93/94.

Prior to that, though, you "could" get 24 spline in the rear of 90s and all 110s had 24 spline as well. Those shafts were all quite a bit stronger with little necking.
