GVWR: 1983 Defender 110

Does anyone happen to know the gvwr for a 1983 defender 110? This is purely for section 179 tax dedcution, but the vehicle must be over 6,000 lbs.

I can not seem to find an "official" gvwr anywhere and I need to be 100% sure before I go forward with the purchase.

Your help is appreciated.

A 1993 NAS 110 is 6504lbs GVWR ... Don't know how you'll find a 1983's though...

This site (http://www.lrfaq.org/IDAR/Defender.html) says that a 1993 US/Canada model has a GVWR of:

Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR): 6504lbs/2950kg

Also says that a UK 1983-present day 110 weighs
4150 to 4520 lbs which would lead me to think that the gvwr would be at least 6k lbs, but I cant seem to find authoritative guidance.

I have also seen a 97 110 VIN plate that states the GCM(gross combined mass) is 7050 kg, which is far more than 6,000 lbs gvwr.

Not "official", but my Haynes manual says the 1983 has a GVWR of 2950kg for the standard suspension and 3050 for the High-load (Hi-cap?) suspension.

My NAS 90 says it is 6001 GVWR. But, actual weight is 4100 stock and 4500 well modified.

GVWR is how heavy you can load it to, not what it weighs. Pretty sure almost all rovers are over 6k.

Just take the Sec 179 deduction ya sissy

But remember to apply the business use percentage first!

The Great State of Iowa says that the GVWR on the 109 is "3 tons".

TeriAnn's got this page - http://www.expeditionlandrover.info/springs.htm

That's close enough for me.

^^^^ Correctamundo. these are the 2 weight figures we use here in the UK. if you have HD suspension (And with newer vehicles, also a HD chassis and Alloy wheels that alter the unsprung weight) then the 3050kg means you need a slightly different MoT test (that's the annual ministry inspection), it becomes cat 7 which is like a small truck. slightly more expensive (not much, 5 or 10) but not all MoT stations can carry it out, so there's been an influx of people (myself included) sending off the V5 (registration document) back to the DVLA (Driver & vehicle Licencing Authority) to get them changed to 2950kg (As a "station wagon" would be, normal hard top, HCPU or normal pickup are rated to 3050) but without written authority from LR themselves, they won't budge.

So, in short, 2950KG for 110 SW

3050 for 110 hard top, HCPU, PU etc with HD (factory fitted this is...) suspension.

You can tell from the (off the top of my head now) 7th or 8th character in the VIN. if it shows it as a station wagon you should be laughing.

Some more info here
