Got a '95 gearbox last week, found it had previously cracked in the side of the case & been repaired...

Seems that this is a common issue from ones that have been in 1T diesel trucks. Something to watch out for if your looking for one. Other issues to watch for are the synchro's on 3rd & 4th and the 5th gear nut backing off causing the main shaft to get damaged. That issues also seems to be common on diesel trucks, read something about the torque pulses from the Cummins backs it off.

Other than that it looks to have been refurbished at the same time as the repair was done so hopefully I won't need to put too much money into it.... and I only paid $300 for it so can't complain too much

Next to find an early bell housing or I have to spring for the AA one.

I'll not start a new thread for my gen 3 Vortec install to make searching easier...

So today, I mostly pulled the complete drive line & cleaned up the engine bay.

that is a seriously cluttered bay!! You should really rethink the hole rover thing if you can't keep it a little cleaner! (Sarcasm you could eat off that shiot)

Andy,

Sorry to say that the LS truck oil pan won't clear the 3-link and the NV4500 won't clear the cross member.

Umm... I have 4" of lift and extended bumps. I guess once I get the motor & trans in we can drop it to full bump & see how things fit... I have drawings for different 3-link x-members & I could always dry sump it, that'd fix that issue.... thoughts ?

All add to the fun

You should be able keep the oil pan off the 3-link with the correct length bump stops.
I had a Safari Gard 3-link. I ended up smacking the oil pan. Went back to traditional radius arms.

Had a look around, a lot of options for swapping the pan out too so either way it'll get sorted.

Gave the NV a good clean up, left it alone inside as oil looked ok and it had been refurbished fairly recently. Fitted a grub screwed 5th gear nut as a matter of precaution & buttoned it all back up after a fresh coat of paint.

Will see how it goes once the trucks back on the road.
