There are pictures in the thread of the engine in a Defender. It looks no more forward than a Rover V8. Why is god's green earth would you want 1.6 high range with this amount of power?

That may sound like a lot (considering you could junk yard a lot of that for cheap), but try putting together a brand new performance 4.6 Rover V8, adding in the cost of a new ZF auto and all new ancillaries and it is way more than that and you are going to be at about 275hp vs. over 400hp. It isn't for everyone, but IMO it has a place in the market.
I'm sure it drives well. Will it have a standard console or does the auto not line up?

I used a 1.003:1 LT230 in this conversion.

Easier for me to find the older gen 3 & 4 speed here than the newer gen 4 setup.... and for a 90% trail truck I'm not too bothered about economy on the highway...

Gen 3/4L60e won't fit with LT230. Shifter is cable operated. So placement is not an issue. Gen 3, mechanical fan. Gen 4,electric fans.

If you want to keep your Rover "pure" then pull that Buick V8 out of it and put a 2.25 lump back in...

Nick is just doing what the beancounters at LR should have done in the early 90's.

Awesome, thanks!

As Nick said, the shifter is cable operated, so you can put it where you like.
We will be using a '97 NAS style console with an automatic shifter that will look at home. It won't be the NAS shifter as we need the TUTD feature and such for the trans.

Marks4wd has a 4L80e to LT230 adapter (as well as a TH400 adapter)

Waiting for the new engine and trans to arrive from GM. I'm hoping that won't take too long, then we will begin.

I guess that kills that idea then....

Oh... and I'm running a 1.667:1 as it's a good ratio for 35's when your running std ratio diffs.

Not with this engine. Heck I run a 1.2 with 35s and a TDI.

Interested to see what you guys come up with for a factory look. Can that translate to a 110?

The set up we are doing is going into a NAS 110.

So the console of the 90 can fit in the 110? Looking forward to seeing this! My hesitation with this engine swap was not being able to achieve a factory look.

Not sure if ECR uses the Ashcroft console, but you can read about the 90 versus 110 on their site. http://www.ashcroft-transmissions.co...e-console.html

Auto console is longer than the seat box and hangs over about 3 inches into the second row floor. A sub box underneath makes it match quite nicely. With the autoconsole on the LS motors we install in our Himalayas it looks nice.

Yes, that is what we use.
Works great in a 110. The flip/fold seats still work and all.

http://www.eastcoastrover.com/automaticconversion.html

Other than the shifter itself being a different model on the LS3, the interior will look just like the ones in the link above.
