Glow plugs with oil on them??

Hi guys,

Getting ready to pull the head. I noticed that 3/4 glow plugs removed are wet with oil.

What is that mean?

Thank you.

1st, I'd take the injectors to a diesel service shop and have them "pop" tested & checked for spray pattern. Parts for these are hard to come by in the US, so bad injectors will have to be replaced with new units. The service books say to replace the entire injector set at every 90K miles, relaced mine after 120K even though they seemed to still operate properly.

Question, 200 or 300Tdi ?

You'll need a new set of copper seats at the base of the injector hole in the head, you can omly seat them once.

It just means those plugs were not working. Nothing more. Nothing to worry about.

Ordered 4 glow plugs. Thinking about getting these injectors rebuilt(200tdi).

BTW, just out of curiosity, where is the oil coming from? I see that my combustion chambers are dry.

If you can't find a local shop, metro fuel injection in MA do them (and the pump). You ship them the injectors, and you can source the parts (nozzles) yourself and send them there as it is cheaper.

It is diesel.

Get a set of injectors from Robert Davis.

No reason to ship them cross country. This shop has done many and is knowledgable in the pumps and injectors. Have been used by several here locally including myself. http://www.dfispdx.com/

They are Bosch injectors as found on literally hundreds of thousands of vehicles. If your local diesel shop can't clean them up they shouldn't be in business!!!

It is not the cleaning them. Setting the pressures equally on the two stage injectors is not a simple job and requires special tools and knowledge. Most diesel shops do not have the expertise.

Nozzles need to be replaced and can't be "cleaned". The nozzles have a limited life.
