Giant turbo snap ring help...

OK I got the big snap ring OUT, but getting it back IN is looking a little challenging. I hate to buy a tool for a job I'm likely to do once in my life (I hope) and never again.
The only other place in my universe where such large snap rings exist is the front axle housing of the tractor. I certainly don't want to get into that again.
Sooo, is there a way that one can manipulate this thing back in or am I hopelessly screwed and have to buy the tool?
