Genuine trailer wiring hook up need pic Roadside Rob?

Bought the $192 kit from RN and it is from a disco I. Needless to say I am unhappy.

They INSIST it is the same as a D90, but I can't see how the disco I bracket would mount on a D90 and it does not have D90 instructions on it and, IIRC, the D90 kit had a longer 7 to 4 pin adaptor wiring.

So, can someone with an original D90 with the trailer wiring (Roadside Rob?) can you post a pic of the correct bracket so I can confirm that RN is smoking crack and tell them to issue a call tag to come get it?

Ron

I found this pic, but it does not show the bracket very well, but it sure looks different.

Are you asking to see how the L-shape bracket that holds the euro-style trailer plug screws into the stock rear bumper?

Yes. I want to see what the bracket looks like. I believe the D90 is flat not L-shaped.

I won't see my truck until Friday night but from memory, I'd say it is L-shaped. Now, on more than one occasion my memory failed me..... And since I bent the bracket last time I went wheeling, I am probably seeing everything bent! ;-)

This I think is the D90 bracket

http://www.defendersource.com/forum/...chmentid=19929

This is the bracket I have (give me a minute to find a link)

Can't find a link but it is L shaped.

I have a 97 D90 SW, and the wiring harness I bought from the dealer had a round plug in that attached to a covered recepticle that was pre-existing near the filler neck in the wheel well. The other end of the loom was just loose "pig-tail" wires that I wired into a turn signal "black box" that I bought at Walmart. That device was wired into a standard 7 pin connector. I went with a 7 pin because I eventually installed a braking device for trailer brakes. I don't like the feeling I get when shoved around by a loaded trailer and the short wheel base of the D90.

That's weird my truck truck has the mounting bracket on the bumper but no wiring for a trailer. I had to add that myself. It looks to me like the mounting bracket is apart of the bumper.

Per Les at RN, you can't get the correct D90 original kit anymore. Rover superseded the part to the disco I kit and per ME the bracket is wrong and the 7 to 4 flat is too short. I returned the kit to RN and will just use the shitty Hoppy walmart one as it is going to be wrong anyway.

Ron,

I have a couple of DI kits, one that was only used a few times and the other was taken out of a wreck and looks good but is of unknow status.

I think I also have a an extra rover to flat and the black rover plug.

Let me know if you would be intrested in any of the stuff and I will see what I can dig up.

Ron,
My original one got smashed on the trail a couple of years back and the plug relocated to the crossmember. I don't have any idea what it originally looked like.

Ron,

my 90 has a square looking one 4pin , I've tested it once towing a small trailer, I am not planning to tow, so if you feel like stopping by and remove it from the 90 it is yours.

Gustavo, thanks for the offer. I think what you have is the aftermarket kit (I have that already box to four pin) so I am going to hold out for a proper d90 kit. I think dave lucas may have a solution for me.

I have one Ron. Not sure if it is original but I know its flat with plugs going into it that are in a straight line. I will take a photo tomorrow.

I took some quick shots of the plug. is this what you are looking for? I can take photos of the bracket if I can trace the wires back tomorrow. been drinking a little bit now and not feeling like crawling under the truck.

Dan,

What I am looking for is a good pic of the bracket that mounts to the rear step bumper where the big 7 pin thing is. On a genuine kit there is an adaptor plug from that to the four flat plug you are showing.

Thanks,

Ron

D-90 NAS stock trailer wiring kit pictures

Here are the picture you wanted to see (well. actually only one is significant). I also took a picture of the adaptor plug for future reference).

Note that mine is bent.... I probably back into some rock a few weeks ago, but still works fine, so I'm not touching it! Clearance creates itself with time

Thanks Loic!

That is exactly what I needed. The one RN sells (the one for a DI) has a different bracket and the cord in picture 3 is shorter. Ergo it does not work right with a D90. Shipping it back to RN tomorrow with a print out of these so no one else wastes their time. Dave lucas has a used one I can make work with the long plug I have here.

Ron,

If I remember correct you can make the plug however long you want by removing the old one and installing a new one.
