Gasket removal.....

Hey guys,

How do you guys remove the cooked gasket from the block? I am talking about that gasket between the rear cover of the engine that accepts the bell housing specifically.

I tried soaking with WD40, brake cleaner, parts cleaner... Nothing seems to work!

What do y'all do?

TIA

A scraper with replaceable blades worked very well for me. It is time consuming.

Yup. Use a new blade often.

For the real tough stuff there's this foam product in a bottle that you apply and let sit, then come back with a fresh blade.

Permatex makes a gasket remover.....liberal applications of that and a bunch of new razor blades works for me.

You are kidding right?

I tell you that paper hybrid gasket with orange stuff is some tuff stuff to remove.

I have been soaking it with Kroil, it seems to loosen things up. I ordered some aerosol gasket remover from CRC.

Time consuming is an understatement..

The other inferior paper gasket just falls off. Ask me how I know. Use the better gasket.

Who wouldn't want gouged surfaces and a billion partials of grit inside and destroying your engine?
That being said, on iron blocks, have been a fan of roloc bristle discs (green) when necessary. Thinking yellow or white is okay for aluminum, but haven't ventured down that road yet.
