Gasket Heads -> Compression Ratio

I might not be understanding this fully but I need to have my gasket heads rebuilt. Is this the time and way to get my compression ratio lowered so I can use lower octane fuel? Is this a stupid idea?

As always... thanks for the advice.

How "low" do you want to go? I run the lowest you fond at normal gas stations in the US (87?). I have a '96 Disco with same engine you have (Gems 4.0L V8).

Just use stock gaskets and shit fuel. You might be able to find some buick 215 gaskets at summit that have varying thicknesses.

Ah interesting... I think I read most everyone ran 91 octane or above. Was just trying to open the option of 87 or 89... Nothing below that.

You need to be running premium! Why exactly do you want to run anything less?

Haha. I am fine with that but always thought that higher octane wasnt necessarily better... Just depends on the engine. So if I was adjusting the compression ratio to have the engine not knock at lower octane, that would be fine. Always down to save a few bucks.

But maybe I am totally misunderstanding the equation.

It will only be an extra 3 dollars per tank, 15 gallon tank and the difference between 87 and 93 is about $0.20. I occasionally cheat with my RR, but not my 90.
