Garmin + Topo PC

Anyone has an idea where I can find these cheap or even maybe download an EVALUATION copy.

I am experimenting and don't feel spending 200.00 if it is not what I want.

Thanks

I'm not sure exactly what you are asking. Do you want to use Garmin's Topo software or use another Topo (such as National Geographics) on a PC attached to the Garmin?
You might also check out Spatial Minds very reasonable topo software: www.spatialminds.com.
Craig (the creator) is a member of the Pacific Coast Rover Club and he built this software out of frustration with what's available.

I use the Nat Geo Topo software and have been really happy with it. I also have a Topo software that provides better Topo maps then Nat Geo but it's only for Colorado. I like the ease of use for the NG Topo and it seems to be what most people have for plotting routes. I have a Garmin 60CSx. I needed a handheld since I was using it primarily for hiking but it has been great for road use and getting to the TH. The screen is a bit small for driving but it's not bad.

Are you looking for something in particular.

I tell you what I am trying to do. ( not sure if it will work )

Currently I have a DeLorme Street.

I want to use both programs at one on an overlay format ( sort of a boat nav with sonar on top ).

I was told Garmin would be the best to try that, but I am not sure it it will work to my expectation and software can't be returned. ( not need to keep it if it is not what I want )

Thanks for the input

No you can't do that. The Delorme software is supposed to have the best map for PC use in the USA. There maps work on their GPS units.

I don't know about the Delorme but that is what I do with my topo maps. I lay the Mapsource routes or NG routes over the Colorado Topo software I have.

I know I can't do it on the DeLorme, that is why I want to try Garmin.

Besides I am also working on a Split Screen for an option on a Tablet.

Thanks for the input

Alright. Can you please explain what you are trying to do? Anything you can do with the Garmin software, you can do with the Delorme software.

The quote that Delorme has the best software is highly debatable.
For example; Maptech makes the best topo software, in my opinion, but it is very expensive. I've always thought Delorme was way down the list after Garmin, Nat geo etc. Maybe they've vastly improved since I last looked at them.

OK, how are their maps better than Nat Geo, Map tech, etc.? I thought topos were drawn from the US Coast and Geodetic Survey maps.
