Fundamentals - how to figure out plug order

Really basic question -- how do I figure out what order the plugs should go back into the dist cap? I pulled them off last night looking for moisture/corrosion and completely forgot to keep them in order. Thanks

firing order is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2
distributor rotates clockwise
turn the crankshaft until the timing pointer is at the TDC mark. If the rotor tip points towards the drivers side headlight, you are at TDC for cylinder #1, if the rotor tip points the other way, you have found TDC for cylinder #6.
reinstall plug wires from there.

Thanks for pointers, I'll take care of it tonight.

Out of curiousity, can harm be done by mixing up the plugs and turning the ignition?
