Fuel Tank Skid Plate Recommendations

OK...so Skid Plate vs. Tank Cradle...

Two questions:

1 - Are they the same function with the Skid Plate being more substantial? Are they additive? or do people just use the terms interchangeably?

2 - If I want one that it heavy duty and will protect my tank wheeling...what vendor/model do people recommend?

Thanks

Dave

They serve the same function. The Genuine "cradle" is a steel skid plate. I don't know on the thickness but it is definitely not 8mm thick like the southdown one above. Its prob 5 or 6.

So it appears that Sothdown is 8 mm and the Safari is 6ish mm....

Is it worth the $$ for the addtl 2mm or are there other options?

As far as durability you can't directly compare the two based on thickness. The southdown is Galv steel, the safari is aluminum. 6mm of alu is not going to provide the same protection as 6mm of steel. The safari one appears to be about as thick as genuine piece, which is steel, although its gonna be lighter and won't rust up (except galvanic).
