Fuel pump pulley adjustment

Hi guys,

When replacing timing belt, how do you know where to set the fuel pump pulley back exactly as it has a little bit of slack about 20 degree or so even with the pin inserted? I am talking about the pulley itself when it is loosened from the fuel pump spindle.

I know you are supposed mark its position using some sort of marker prior to disassembly but I am assuming it is likely off.

I purchased this engine from someone but I don't trust anything on this engine and I am assuming what the seller claimed to have done actually is either done wrong or not done, hence the overhauling.

Thanks,

Michael

The pin locates the pump. The pulley is wherever. Choose a cog that puts it in the middle of the available travel with the belt tensioned. The bolts are only to be tightened with the belt tensioned.

So the small rotation play that can be much as a tooth or two doesn't matter as long as the pin is holding the pump where it is and you center the gear in the middle of that free play?

Thanks John.
